Vintage daruma from Shorinzan Daruma-ji temple - set of two fuku daruma dolls

Shorinzan is a temple in Takasaki, Gunma prefecture, famous for its daruma dolls. At the beginning of a new year, there is a market of such dolls, made by local artisans, and temple officials are offering special blessings.
At the end of the year, a popular ceremony of burning old daruma dolls is held, to ward off bad luck.

Fuku darumas are suppose to bring luck and fulfill your wishes. In order to gain its support, you should paint their left eye; if the wish comes true, as a reward for your daruma, you should paint the second eye.

This couple is made of paper mache and plaster. One is red, and the other white; they both have black and golden details, with signs for luck and happiness written at the front.
On their back there is a tag with the name of the temple.

Due to the age, the tags on the back are showing some light stains. The box is slightly discolored, and the tag on the lid is slightly damaged. There are also some stains inside. Please check the photos before purchasing.
