Maru Obi

The maru obi (丸帯, "one-piece obi") represents the most formal category of women's obi, although it has largely fallen out of use in contemporary times.

This obi is crafted from fabric approximately 68 cm in width, which is then folded around a double lining and stitched together.

The maru obi reached its peak popularity during the Taishō and Meiji eras. Due to its substantial bulk and weight, it is challenging to tie independently, and it is currently worn primarily by maiko and brides.

A maru obi typically measures between 30 centimeters (12 inches) and 35 centimeters (14 inches) in width, and between 360 centimeters (11.8 feet) and 450 centimeters (14.8 feet) in length, featuring a complete pattern and often embellished with metal-coated threads and foilwork.
