Japanese cast iron ashtray - nanbu tekki - birds and flowers
A small iron plate with a lid, used to safely burn incense, mosquito coils, or to keep cinder or ash. The lid is decorated with simple images of birds and flowers. The surface was treated with a patine to produce a rusty brown color.
It can be used as intended, but it will make a nice interior decoration on its own. Not only that, but it can even become a holder for dry flowers, or a place to store your jewelry or trinkets.
The metal is treated with oxide and paint to produce the green and golden shades.
On the bottom there is a name of a stock company and kanji for "Nanbu", indicating iron casting technique.
