A useful Japanese paperweight. It doubles as a brush/pen tray. Its prolonged shape makes it great for holding down calligraphy paper. It is decorated with an aphorism used as a guide for students written by Aizu Yaichi, an important poet, calligrapher, and historian from the end of the XIX century. The quote can be translated to "Love this life to the fullest!". On the back there are ideograms for "gift", and "Niigata City", Aizu's place of birth.
This tray can also serve as a unique interior decoration. The surface is painted in pleasant green color.
