A traditional Japanese wooden doll depicting the famous monk Daruma (Dharma), half-legendary founder of Zen Buddhism. Daruma is considered a symbol of good luck and perseverance.
This one is rather comical, with exaggerated proportions and facial expression. On the front there are kanji for "Zuiganji temple", a famous 17th century zen temple in Matsushima.
This figurine will be a great interior decoration, a good fortune token, or even a paperweight.
There are some small imperfections due to the age of the item - a few bigger dents on the sides and back, a smaller between its eyes, multiple small scratches, etc. Please check the photos carefully before purchasing.
