Cast iron wind chime (fuurin) - omikoshi (portable shrine)
A traditional Japanese wind chime, fuurin, in the shape of a o-mikoshi, a portable shrine often seen during traditional Japanese festivals, with a small bell attached below. These chimes are traditionally used during summer-their sound is supposed to bring refreshment during hot and humid season.
It is a nanbu ironware, traditional cast iron item from Iwate prefecture.
The bell hanging below, shaped like a traditional temple bell, is the part that makes the sound. Despite the small size, it produces distinctive, clear notes.
Both parts are treated with oxide and paint to achieve rusty and black colors.
The bell can be easily removed and used separately.
The item is in a great shape. There might be minuscule flaws, such as hairline scratches or tiny chips of paint, present.
