A unique tumbler cup in Satsuma-yaki style. It's handmade and hand painted with gold and glass enamel, by a family of artisans from Kagoshima, in the South of Japan. Traditionally, white Satsuma pottery was made only for the ruling class, making it an exclusive and luxurious item. This small tumbler is decorated with a small bouquet of chrysanthemum flowers. The pattern is repeated inside. The bottom half of the cup is glazed with a coffee brown shade, creating a strong contrast with the upper, eggshell white part. The cracking glaze shows unique hairline pattern.
The cup seems unused. There is the name of the studio written on the bottom.
