Cast iron wind chime (fuurin) - simple house
A traditional Japanese wind chime, fuurin, in the shape of a simplified house with paper windows, with a small bell attached below. These chimes are traditionally used during summer-their sound is supposed to bring refreshment during hot and humid season.
It is a nanbu ironware, traditional cast iron item from Iwate prefecture.
The design is modern. The top part is shaped like a modern, simple house, but with a traditional flared roof. The bell hanging below,in the shape of a temple bell, is the part that makes the sound. Despite the small size, it produces distinctive, clear notes. The original paper strip, propelling the chime, is included.
The bell can be easily removed and used separately. The top part is finished with some paper, glued from the inside. It can be removed or substituted with some fabric or other material.
The chain has some spots of rust near the top loop. There might be some other minuscule flaws, such as hairline scratches or tiny chips of paint, present. The paper strip is slightly creased.
