A miniature vase to display a single flower bud. It is a mumyōi-yaki, a pottery made of clay containing iron oxide, extracted near the famous gold and silver mines of Sado island.
The clay is really smooth and sturdy, in a characteristic rusty shade.
This mini vase is partially glazed with glazes also containing iron oxide. Abstract decoration is inspired by a traditional patterns found on the ancient pottery from the region.
There is a mark of the maker on the bottom.
